In the early 1950’s Jack Herrin decided to show Buffalo, IL area farmers the benefits of adding Nitrogen to their corn crop
during the growing season by adding Anhydrous Ammonia. It did not take long for growers to see a dramatic increase in corn
yield from added Nitrogen. By the mid 1960’s Jack had his first fertilizer plant opened in Buffalo servicing area growers with
Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. The early years were not easy. Some products arrived in bags in railroad box cars and
would have to be unloaded and moved by pickup to the plant. Todays Technology and improved infrastructure have brought us
a long way from our simple beginnings. Herrin’s values remain as strong as the day we began, our commitment to customers
and commitment to employees will continue to carry us forward.
Jack’s entrepreneur spirit always drove him. At one time he owned a Lumber Yard in Buffalo and Mt Pulaski and mixed
concrete onsite with truck mounted concrete plants. After opening the Fertilizer Plant in Buffalo, Jack expanded the business
with a location in Mt Pulaski and with partner Norman Braner he added a location near Rochester, IL in Berry. In 1975 Jack
started building a new location for the Buffalo plant on land he purchased one mile east of Buffalo. That location remains the
businesses location today.
Herrin’s commitment to agriculture is as strong as ever. We are committed to maximizing grower’s profits and taking complete
care of every acre we service. We can do this by developing strong grower relationships and by hiring and training top
personnel.
